Odilon Redon.
I saw a painting at the Worcester Art Museum when I was really little. I couldn't have been more than 6 or 7 but I completely fell in love with it. When I wake up after a dream I always remember them as looking like that painting. I never knew the name of the painting or who the artist was but I have always remembered it. I decided yesterday I would try to figure it out. Let me tell you it is really difficult to find a painting based on my 6 year old description and nothing more....blue and green and blurry and mushy, and a face that could be Jesus or maybe a fairy...and some bright flower blobs....
Anyway after a lot of searching and using some of my adult knowledge of Art movements. I finally found the artist.....French Symbolist painter, Odilon Redon. I still cannot find a photo of the painting at the WAM but as soon as I saw the name and his style it all clicked. Though I realize now that I have seen Redon's work before, I guess I never put two and two together. Now I am completely obsessed. He may even surpass Gustave Klimt as my new favorite artist. I am even planning on using a painting as inspiration for my decorating scheme.

shoulda called me up! i would have known immediately! its in the corner of the impressionist room on the 3rd floor of the worcester art museum. i loooooove that painting as well. so so much. when i worked there i discussed it a few times with other coworkers and they never felt the same as me. i believe he uses sand in that one too. and also i believe its a woman as opposed to jesus. good choice my friend!
Its funny how impactful (is that a word?) a painting can be on you when you are younger. The first time I went to france I was in High School and was in the Lourve and saw the "coronation of napoleon" and I will always remember that moment in my life. I just remember being in awe when i saw that. I was so excited to see it again a couple weeks ago now as an adult with a little more knowledge and understanding. It was a very good day!! I am glad that you were able to find the name of your artist. I am going to look him up in all these art books here at school and maybe see if I can help you find your painting...
Hey. Thanks for your help girls! If either of you find out the name of the painting I'd love to know. I suppose I could've called the museum too but I kind of liked the detective work :)
The painting is called "Spring" (I chose it to research for an art class once). Thanks for bringing inspiration to my boring day :)
I love the pics you added for this one.
Yay! Thanks April. I thought it might be called "Springtime"...I was close. Unfortunately I still cannot find an image of this painting online. But now I know!
